Community Music is a youth and community music organisation based in Tower Hamlets, East London. We use music as a tool for positive change. By breaking down barriers to learning, we support young people and adults from all backgounds to develop a wide array of skills which prepare them for a better future. We offer a diverse programme of courses, events and professional development opportunities, and offer progression routes from beginner to professional. Courses include beginner instrumental classes in guitar, bass and drums, weekly supported rehearsal sessions, music production tuition for young adults, a mental health support programme, a Foundation Degree in Creative Music Production and Business, and a Music Leader Training Programme, inspiring the next generation of community music leaders.
As part of the Go Compose! initiative, Community Music created a free, unique opportunity for young musicians aged 9 -15 from Tower Hamlets and East London to rehearse, record, perform and promote in a supported environment. Over two years, Community Music delivered a series of termly courses for young people, most of whom were NEET, which highlighted the roles and career opportunities within the music industry. Supported by professional musicians and producers, students made music for film and TV adverts, learnt to play instruments, experienced life as an audio engineer, gained music production skills and performed live. The project aimed to highlight career opportunities available within music, and to offer progression routes for further learning
